It wasn't much reduction, about 1.2:1, but it was enough to do many things (IIRC, the rear axle was 3.90 and first gear 3.454-gee that last number is familiar). At one time the dual range transmission was available in the USA You can take an old 85-89 Subaru GL dual range 5MT and swap in it's 1.59:1 reduction gear.
